Are you confused on which Ford Transit to go for? Don’t be as the Ford Transit is available in mind-blowing 450 models in total. These include a panel van, chassis cab and minibus variants which has the gross vehicle mass from 2.9 to 4.7 tonnes. It is available in front, rear and all wheel drive churning out 100bhp, 125bhp and 155bhp. There are two wheelbases, three body lengths and two roof heights, offering a load volume of up to 15.1m3. There are two or three seats in Van versions where as the double cab has six or seven seats. All these 450 Transits have six-speed manual gearboxes. Surely, Ford has eclipsed itself with new Transit.
The latest award winning British built van is the front wheel driven L3 H2 with ECOnetic engine giving out 125bhp. This new version has the same terrific looks and dramatic styling as the rest of the range, but with a more aggressive front grille. The new Transit was designed, engineered and tested in the UK at Ford’s Dunton Technical Centre.
The interior is a delight to be in as the seating is very comfortable and accommodating. The steering wheel is adjustable making it easy to find the right driving position. The driver’s seat offers eight-way adjustment. There is now more legroom and headroom and the large windscreen improves visibility.
The interior features include a radio with AUX, Bluetooth, USB/iPod connect and remote controls, electrically operated windows, courtesy lights with ‘theatre dimming’, remote central locking, trip computer, and ‘easy-clean’ rubber flooring. As with every Transit there’s lots of storage space with overhead compartments.
The Transit engine fitted in the L3 H2 trim is the 2.2 litre Duratorq TDCi engine with 350Nm of torque. The ECOnetic version claims to give 40.9mpg with 179g/km of CO2 emissions. An auto Stop/Start is also included as well as an improved battery management system. The steering is delightfully accurate and the ride and handling are astoundingly good.
The L3 H2 model offers 1886mm load height and load width of max load width 1784mm and load length of 3040mm with a 1497kg payload which means an improvement of 10% over the previous model. The only downfall can be the aggressive grille which might not suite every one’s taste. The latest Ford Transit Van is available to buy now at £27,075.
