What Munich believes is that nothing would be more precious as a gift on the 100th anniversary of BMW as the all new i8S supercar. Why would it be? Because it has everything in it what BMW has learned through years of developing expertise in sports division known as M division and electric project known as i-Programme.
In a project code named M100, BMW is working intensively on a new model which will be the star car for BMW’s 100th birthday. It is also said that it could be the good-bye present to Norbert Reithofer, chairman of BMW, who probably would retire in 2017 if not in late 2016.
This project is being developed by the team of ‘i-programme’ as Norbert wanted to make this car environmental friendly without losing its performance attribute towards power and torque. Roberto Fedeli, who worked with Ferrari lately, is the new programme director.
The name has not been finalised yet, but it surely is going to hit the showrooms by the end of the year 2017. It has also been said that this new car would retain the carbon fibre upper body and the aluminium intensive chassis from the i8, but the rest of the elements along with material mix is extensively diverse. The aerodynamics and looks have also been greatly worked on.
There will be two BMW engine configurations available: one would be a twin-turbo 2.0L four cylinder churning out 320bhp and the other with 480bhp 3.0L straight six. It is also believed that this new i8S will be able to sprint from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds which is almost half a second quicker than the i8’s we have now a days.
