It is not far when people will start their cars with the help of scanning their eye retinas, instead of turning the keys. EyeLock is an equipment manufacturing firm, they manufacture biometric equipment to identify drivers through their eye scanning. These cameras will be installed in rear-view mirrors of the cars. An infrared scanner will scan algorithm of iris of the human eye which interpret 240 unique codes and properties. When these scanners will scan the eye iris, it will be matched to a driver’s iris details. The vehicle will be started after the match and ready to go.
Experts are increasingly looking at biometric identification to help the drivers to secure their vehicles. EyeLock system of iris identification may be one of the first examples to reach car owners as a sophisticated identification tool.
Senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book Karl Brauer said, “If a vehicle can definitively identify a car’s owner before it allows entry and operation, it removes the possibility of theft. The price of biometric technology is dropping, as seen by its recent arrival in the cell-phone market. Automobiles, along with home security systems, are the next logical application of this technology.”
This identification system will be used to counter the car theft as a security application for automotive. Iris scanners will allow the drivers to customise their car settings and drivers can share their car with multiple family members by scanning their eyes. It can maintain the record of five different drivers at once in the same car.
EyeLock has produced iris-scanning security equipment since 2007, for the high-level financial firms like banks etc. and prisoner vans. The company unveiled its automotive platform at the Detroit Auto Show, installed at the 3D-Printed vehicle
