When the fourth generation was first introduced to the market, it was obvious that it won’t be long but then the time came when it started stealing the sales from some best-selling models like Ford Fiesta and Toyota GT86. In no time, MX-5 surpass the million mark in sales and once again proved that it is the best-selling model in the history.
People love MX-5 because it gives a riding experience of a true sports car in the price of a casual one. If the performance is a priority for some riders, MX-5 offers 2.0-litre Mazda engine for the far quicker, characterful and muscular throttle response.
The only other engine option available in the MX-5 line-up is a 1.5-litre engine. This tiny engine is not that small at all, it is a revving power plant instead.
The MX-5 becomes such a great sports car when fitted with 1.5-litre engine because it is actually designed around this unit. The larger 2.0-litre engine also has some reasons for the inclusion and I am not going to tell you those, just ask the MX-5 and it will take only 30 seconds to explain every single detail of it.
Let’s talk about the little fellow then, this tiny monster spins incredibly fast, surpassing 7000rpm before pushing its limits and sounds like a true sports car. Mazda calls it “Joy for the moment, Joy for the life.”
The Big-fellow on the other hand, has four cylinders and sips petrol, however, it produces 29bhp extra than the little fellow. Leads the speed by one second, as compared to its 1.5-litre fellow. Both options are the best, but 2.0-litre is just awesome with muscular torque. Both engines are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox to enhance the overall driving experience.
