UK driving licence photo cards will get a new look as the union flag will feature on them from now onwards. The union flag will be added to every card issued in any part of UK including England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Government has announced that the union flag will be added to the photo cards in the near future to make us feel more patriotic.
Transport Minister Claire Perry announced the plans and explained the philosophy behind them. He said, “People in this country truly take pride in our national flag which is why I am delighted it will now be displayed on British driving licences. Celebrating Britain strengthens, our sense of national identity and our unity. I will feel proud to carry my new licence and I hope others will too.”
The sample image shows that how a new driving licence with the union flag will look like. We have inserted a union flag in addition to the European Union flag which is already a part of the photo card and appears on all driving licences in the UK. According to the announcement from Ministry of Transport, it is obvious that the union flag will make its way into the photo cards issued in England, Scotland and Wales in near future but Ministry of Transport has not specified any date and time yet.
The instigation of the union flag into the driving licence comes after other important announcements from government and motoring authorities, affecting UK motorists. We saw the tax disc supremacy ended on October 1st 2014 and the paper counterpart is about to meet its end on June 8th 2015. DVLA also dropped down its fees for driving licence in October 2014 to support online submission procedures for fast and easy data processing.
