Whenever you think of a supercar, the thought that crosses your mind is ‘super-fast’ car with highly ‘fuel thirsty’ engine. Ford is one of the biggest auto groups in the world and Mondeo is their one of the best-sellers. And the world is going to be shocked by the upcoming supercar from Ford, the Mondeo – powered by world’s most advanced Ford engine which is small enough to fit on an A4 size paper sheet.
On the motorways, this new model will manage almost 70 miles per gallon which is much better in economy than its predecessor. This new engine is two times smaller than that of 1997 Mondeo yet more powerful.
This is going to be the first 1.0-litre engine ever fitted into a family car like Mondeo, and surprisingly, it will get an additional 20 miles more than its 1997 predecessor’s 2.0-litre – thanks to the advancements in technology and turbocharging. The older engines are less efficient and the horsepower is also lesser as the new engine produces 138 brake horsepower. The fuel economy is improved with the use of new smaller petrol engines rather than diesel ones.
A number of Ford vehicles such as the Focus, Fiesta and C-Max are already using 1.0-litre three-cylinder engines. Other manufacturers like Vauxhall and Fiat are going to sell their ADAM, Panda and 500 model ranges with a 1.0 litre unit this summer.
Tony Dron, a former racing driver said, “When people buy cars, they always look at the performance figures when they should really be looking at the fuel economy instead. But I don’t foresee a day when people will be bragging about fuel economy in pub conversations.”
